What is Difference between FTP and Cloud?

Cloud or cloud computing is a general term used for different services services, like networking, storage, software applications etc.which are hosted on the internet and It allows us the ability to access different services on the Internet with web browser or with some software application without having to store any data on local system.

What is FTP?

FTP is stands for File Transfer Protocol, a standard protocol used for transferring files over the internet, It is used for upload and for download files from a central location. FTP can be consider as an integral part of cloud computing services because many cloud service providers also offers storage services which is like a FTP server where you can upload and download files from any where. 

For example, you can transfer files from online storage to a computer or host, share a file, or you can use it for remote access to files hosted on your FTP server.

For FTP you normally need a FTP client for accessing files and folders. You can access your file on cloud with any web browser, you can also use application for accessing file on cloud

Normally with FTP you can capture the advance statistics Cloud may have Tracking and Reporting Ability
FTP server have less cost as compare to cloud Cloud services are may have more cost but also have some advance features as well.
Cloud computing consider more secure as compare to FTP, IN FTP communication are normally in plain text. On the other hand Cloud providers also provide you some more security features like backups..
FTP normally use port 21 for communication There are mot specific port for cloud computing

What is TFTP?

TFTP is a  Simple File Transfer Protocol ) is a TCP / IP protocol suite for simple file transfer between server and client machines and it use the UDP port  69. TFTP is currently defined in RFC 1350. TFTP is designed to be small and easy to implementso it does not have many of the features that the FTP have.

How TFTP works?

In TETP,transmission is starts from a read or write file request, ok the request, if the server approves the request, then server opens the connection, file is send in form of data packets and each data packet length is of 512 bytes. Each data packet has one chunk of data, and must be acknowledged by an acknowledgment packet before the next packet can be sent. If a data packet size is smaller than 512 bytes, then the end of transmission. If the packet is lost during transmission, after a timeout message sender will retransmit the last data packet.

TFTP supports five types of packets, which

  • Read request (RRQ)
  • Write request (WRQ)
  • Data (DATA)
  • Acknowledgment (ACK)
  • Error (ERROR)

Advantage of the TFTP protocol

Although Compared with FTP TFTP functionality is much weaker, but the TFTP has two advantages:

1) TFTP can be used where you don’t haveany  TCP UDP environment;

2) TFTP code share intrinsic than FTP smaller.

While both advantages of the conventional computer is not important, but for those who do not have the disk to store system software TFTP bootstrap hardware device particularly useful.

We often use FTP and TFTP protocol roughly the same, are used for file transfer between the two computers or between IP devices like IP Phones in the network. TFTP protocol can be seen as a simplified version of the FTP protocol.

TFTP and FTP are file transfers protocols and have the following differences:

TFTP protocol does not verify the client’s permission.

FTP requires client authentication.

TFTP protocol generally used for LAN and remote UNIX computers.

Usually FTP protocol is used for the Internet.

TFTP use the UDP port 69.

 FTP listens on TCP port 21 by default.

TFTP only supports file transfer. TFTP does not allow users to list the contents of a directory or negotiate with the server to determine which files are available.

But in FTP you can upload/download files, also user can list the different directories.
